MY REVIEW

I am not really a Koontz fan, I prefer Stephen King. I thought this book was weird as I started reading it. Compelling but strange. It has a very dreamy tone to it. Bibi often slips away from reality and into her imagination. Which kind of makes her an unreliable narrator. The characters are extremely intuitive bordering on psychic ability. Koontz really loves golden retrievers, I have read a few of his books that feature a golden retriever. The one I remember was Watchers. A Big Little Life is Koontz's book about his dog, a golden retriever. I was confused by the supernatural aspects of the story. The pacing was slow and the story bounces around a lot through time and different character's points of view so much that I had no idea what was going on. A third of the way in was when I started liking this book and thought it was getting interesting. Two thirds into the book I thought it was getting really good, now that it started making sense. This book takes a lot of commitment to get to the good part. I kept reading because I wanted to know what the heck was going on.  Kind of a Gordian knot wrapped in a riddle of delusion. The last hundred pages of this book were so good and exciting that they transformed me into an ardent Dean Koontz fan, well almost. I do have to say this is the best Dean Koontz book I've ever read, though I've only read three; Watchers, Tick Tock and Ashley Bell. 4 stars.
