MY REVIEW

I read the first book in this series and liked it a lot. I gave it five stars. I haven't read the second book yet and this is book number three. I really like the blend of modern conveniences and magic in these books. I don't feel like I missed too much by reading this book after the first in the series. I hadn't meant to skip the second book and intend to catch up, because I really like these characters and the story. Oscar and Tiny are my favorite characters. Victor has been stealing magic from monsters and gathering it up in black blades. This is what must happen in the second book that I missed. Victor Draconi wants to kill off the other families. Lila wants revenge on Victor and Blake because they murdered her mother.  This is a fun young adult magical adventure. 4 stars.

Scary movies and I am an idiot.

I was up till 12:30a last night, which is really late for me, watching horror movies on Netflix. I thought they were both pee your pants scary. First I watched The Taking of Deborah Logan. This was an uncomfortable movie for me to watch at times because my own mother died last year from dementia/Alzheimer's.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3387648/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Then I watched The Babadook. Also, uncomfortable to watch because I am also a single mother of a son. My son is eleven, so not little like the one in the movie but still uncomfortable. I had to check a few times last night that my son was still with me.

So that's what I was up to last night. Today, I discover how stupid I am. Pretty shocking, I know. I didn't know that you can leave feedback on your archived books on Netgalley. So all I have to do is try to find the books that still interest me at the library and review them. That will really fix my feedback ratio. Still probably going to take me four years to get my percentage to 80% from 22% but there you go.

I will probably be up again tonight watching some scary, scary movies on Netflix. Such fun!

Math is hard

After twenty minutes of swearing, I figured out how to do percentages. As in how to find a percentage of something. So it looks like it will take three years to get my percentages up on Netgalley and that is only if I read and review pretty much everything that I am approved for. So I have to read and review about 800 more books for Netgalley. Maybe four years. Up next is

This is the third book in the series. I read the first book and really liked it. In fact I gave it five stars.
But I haven't read the second book which I guess I will need to get at the library.

I like these covers. Very cool.

Central by Raine Thomas review

MY REVIEW:
I am kind of cheating here because I haven't read the first book though I actually own it. No excuse there. I just really loved this cover. It is so pretty. From the description I figured out that each book of the trilogy has a different protagonist and they are sisters.  So the three sisters are half human and half magical beings with supernatural powers that live on another plane of existence. I thought that was an interesting concept. These Estilorian people were considered gods or angels in the past and they don't have emotions.  One Gloresti dude is matched with one of the girls to be her guardian protector. I sensed some romantic possibilities to come between Olivia and James.  I was confused by the terminology and felt that there should be a glossary at the beginning of the book. Parts of the book I liked but other times I was getting bored and my focus was drifting away. 3 stars.

Genius The Game by Leopoldo Gout review

http://www.amazon.com/Leopoldo-Gout/e/B001JRX4TW/ref=dp_byline_cont_ebooks_1

MY REVIEW:

I went into this book thinking that it would remind me of Ready Player One and I was right, it did.  It reminded me of it because this book is also about a young computer genius. In Ready Player One the protagonist is a gamer, in this book the protagonists are a technical engineer, computer programmer/hacker/coder and an activist. The high school student Rex is a brilliant computer programmer and he and his friends are on the run, presumably from the government or some worse kind of entity, in the beginning of the book. Hacktivism and genius, the revolution has begun.  The book starts out with the three main characters meeting for a competition of genius.  The contestants are young techie prodigies. The writing is really good, the story is fast paced and the characters are likeable. A SciFi techie young adult adventure. I enjoyed it a lot. 4 stars

I dreamed a dream

Last night I was dreaming that I was at Walmart. I was talking to a teenage boy who then proceeded to shoplift in front of me. A cop yelled and the boy ran off. Then the cop stopped me and gave me a very intimate pat down. I think we were dating after he went to first base with his patdown. It is like seriously, buy me dinner first, sheesh. Anyway, then I am sitting in an office with the cop and a lady cop who is reading a magazine. A song comes on the radio and I ask who the singer is. The two cops look at me like I am insane and the lady cop says, "You don't know Bael?" And then I say,  " Oh, yeah. Isn't he that one singer from Norway, Sweden or Denmark?" A Scandinavian corner of the globe. With the power of Google, I discovered that Baal or Bael is the name of a demon. There is a Bael fruit. There is a character from the Song of Ice and Fire named Bael the Bard. There is a dwarven base in World of Warcraft called Bael Modan.

Anyway, then I say that I don't listen to music. The cops again look at me like I am insane. I prefer to watch TV or read a book. When I had a car I would listen to music on the radio. But now I don't listen to anything. I find it distracting. My mother also didn't like to listen to music because she found it distracting. No soundtrack of my life playing. No background music. My 11 year old son though, loves music. He watches music videos on YouTube. He constantly has ear buds in as if they are growing out of his head. He is always singing. The only time I hear music is when I am watching TV and I recognize the song my son had been singing. And I say, "Hey, you know this song. I've heard you sing it."

Happy clicking finger madness

So my happy clicking finger madness on Netgalley got a little out of hand. But I am going to really try hard to review all of the books and get my percentages up. I have a 22% feedback ratio. That needs to get up to 80%! Which means that I have a day to read this book. It looks good.

So tomorrow is a reading and cleaning day. I have company coming Friday and my apartment is a mess. 304 pages in one day. No sweat.

MY REVIEW

I like this author. I like SciFi and my favorite book genre is YA dystopia so it came as no surprise that I was enjoying this book from the first page. Sophelia is an escaped slave in a hellish future where the gap between the haves and have nots has widened considerably. If you don't follow the rules you can be killed by the corrupt government. The poor work in the mines with barely enough water and food to survive. People have to even pay for the oxygen they breathe. And if you can't pay your taxes then you are sold into slavery. Maxton lives a life of crime working for the black market.  These two characters meet and they work together to survive. Some swoon worthy sweet and gentle romance happens between the thrilling fight for survival.  I liked the characters a lot and this book was really exciting. I was on edge and nervous at times while reading because I was drawn in so deeply into the story. 4 stars.

What am I reading? What am I doing? Why am I here?

Professional Reader

https://s2.netgalley.com/member/profile

This is my profile on Netgalley. Not very exciting. I need to update it. My percentage rating is pretty bad because I would have such a fun time requesting books and not actually reading them. Then my archived list got longer and longer. But now I really am going to start reading and reviewing. For really reals.

I even made a list. I am currently reading The Other Side of Gravity and enjoying it.

I should have a review for it soon. I think I am 25% done with it so far.
